Sleepwalking

by Memphis May Fire

/
1.
I dare you to try and put me under. Trust me I am already dead. I’ve been digging my own grave for far too long now, and I don’t mind waking up without you in my bed. When the sun comes up you will realize that you were wrong. And when your lungs collapse, every breath that you take will feel like your last. I wanna see the fire ignite, suffocating the sky. Don’t ever say that you know just what this feels like. I swear one day I’ll kill this lie. Curiosity has taken its toll once again, and taken over, taken over everything we had. It’s a shame that you just walked away. Take everything I don’t want the memories to stay. You say you didn’t see it coming, well I could see it from a mile away. Look in-between the lines and read the story written on your face. Letting go is easier when you have nothing left to lose. So I’m letting go. I’m letting go of you! Please look me in the eyes; next time you stab me in the back! (You know to come and get all your clothes out of my house, so go tell all your friends why you chose to stick around)
2.
Behold! This is my vision. No less real for being unseen. Like a giant in a giant’s world, I am proud of nothing. We try to be better from the outside in, but still we have no place to call home in the end. A wise man speaks when he has something to say, but fools just have to say something. A wise man speaks when he has something to say. Just keep your mouth shut! Ignorance, ignorance, it is the root and the stem of all that you know. This life that we live is not all there is. Two roads diverged in the woods and I, I took the one less traveled by. This has made all the difference. If they only knew where we’ve been, and where going to. It is the end. Only the dead have seen the end of anything. Prepare me for the end!
3.
I’ve got some things to say. I believe this announcement is overdue. My days blended together seamlessly and who knew? The error of my ways in this world becomes so severe. The day she interrupted my life it all fell, but she was so sincere. I’ve known some witches this town still will not burn. Their never held on trial and we’ll never learn. They invade our hearts to bleed us inside out. Somebody give me the liquids to turn this around. I know she loves how every eye looks at her. And she feeds on the pain you feel. I’m telling you her words are never cut and dry. And she keeps appearing at all the wrong times, with a brand new lie. Still don’t believe me? She carries a box of matches in the side of her purse! She starts a fire just to watch you burn. I’ve been trying hard to avoid it, I though I’d make it but I was wrong! Deep in the sunset the sunset the smoke billows high. She lit the fire that ruined my life. She started the fire that ruined my life! Time after time you left me empty. You’ll be forgotten in the ending. It’s not just a game when you’re winning. Stay back. She’ll eat you alive or burn the heart that you have left. Stay back. You’ve got to stay back. She’s the wicked witch of the west. And the hungry wolf in the woods. Stay back. Step away from the girl! If you value your sanity, leave town!
4.
I am the air in your lungs and the blood in your veins. I am all the voices you hear, and I’ll never go away. The deafening sound you hear is coming straight from your mouth. Choke on your words your so shallow. Bite your lip! Bite your lip when you hear it. Hold your tongue. You gotta hold your tongue. Don’t be so blind. Time is not on our side. Look me straight in the eyes. Do not say you’ll be alright. Put it all on the line and for a minute the earth will stand still. I am the ghost. The ghost in the mirror that re creates, painting your soul with every color you hate. I am the voices that you hear and the decisions that you make. I am the air that you breathe and I’ll never go away. I will Not carry you through. Is this what scares you the most? My friend, you fooled yourself again, into thinking its real. They can not save you like I can. They can not make you feel. Swimming in regret, but the water is much too deep. This is your very last breath. Choose your words carefully. Save yourself from the lies that brought my father to his knees!
5.
We are all guilty, but silence will not save our souls. We are becoming tired and weary and our conscience is slowly growing old. Living by the reason of science, we never question what we are told. These words rise above my voice but I think you already know. Now let’s get one thing straight! I’ve been there, I’ve done that, and I refuse to go back. Nothing you can do will change my mind. Were all searching for something so much greater than what we have, and these lies have nothing to offer us. A bigger meaning, a better purpose, please trust me this is worth it. You don’t have to be the person you were yesterday. Take your seats. Now please let me break the silence and say what you’ve been waiting to hear. I have the answer. I have the cure. I’ll say it again and again. I have the cure. Everything is overly organized, but you seem strangely out of place. When will you realize the past can not be erased? I refuse to wash my hands of this and forget what needs to be said. If life is all we are living for, then kill me now!
6.
I do not know the American Gentleman. God forgive me for putting two such words together. Undone your no different than all of the rest, a life full of greed with no heart in your chest. Full to your throats, you cry out starvation! Oh what a joke and waste of creation. You are the only one to blame for all the choices you made. I’ll lower you body down into an open grave and let the vultures have their way with you. We’ll take you by surprise and spill your blood like wine. Scarlet stains upon your flesh will end the night. Rest your head and soon you will find, beauty is young and will die in time. When I look out my window I see a nation filled with disgrace, all the thieves and the liars, and your there with a smirk on your face. Everything you say rings hallow, but you will tell your stories again and again. Sell your half truths with a smile. Take and inject it, inject it! You think that we don’t know a thing. But I can see straight through you. You think that we believe everything that you say. My god, things aren’t looking good. Now the tables have turned and you see this for what it really is. It all seems so out of place. We think that we’re safe right here and let you mismanage it all. For once now I see it so clear. Don’t even try to run cause you will find we are not blind and were not amused. You say that this is just the way that it goes but everyone knows. (Looks like you got it all figured out, brave from a distance for everyone to marvel and applaud at the sound. These lines were drawn for your days on end, so get out of focus and blend in. Failure is what you’ve become. You’re a failure, failure!)

Sleepwalking 03:47
The city hides the secrets of the liars in the streets. The phone calls and assurances are all for nothing, but lookin good. Every time the truth comes out its pushed away and pushed aside, but I won’t stand and watch it all go un-said. How many times will I fall victim to this? It’s normal by now. No one helps each other up. We push one another back down. It’s sad to see these people, and the apathy they have. I hope one day they lose it all for the choices they made. Out in the open there’s the air of brotherhood and spoken truth. Yet everyone knows what goes on behind these closed doors. Do Tell! No one cares about the heart, no one cares about the past. I’ve seen the way we treat each other, so keep smiling through your teeth. Don’t ever tell me you’re telling the truth. Don’t ever think you can speak my name! When did we stray from what we stand for? When did it all mean nothing to you? It’s hard to find an honest mind in this city. And I keep hoping someone will speak up. I’ve seen how all of this ends. And I promise it’s worth whoever it offends. What happened to what we believed in? I have seen how all of this ends, Sleepwalking our way to contentment. I won’t just let it be, and let you smile through your teeth. You call yourself human. So say it straight to me. We’re sleepwalking all the way to contentment. When will somebody speak up? Don’t ever tell me you’re telling the truth. And don’t ever think you can speak my name!
8.
We are Alive! The last men standing from the fight. We are the chosen, and we claim your life tonight. Breathe in the light that surrounds us. Can you feel it? Take the risk, but know the consequence, know the consequence. If we were made for this, who are we to act any differently? No one said this would be easy. Never look back. Leave it all behind. The clouds overhead have come and gone with the storm. Now let me show you the truth. We were born into the open sky, where heroes are created, and legends never die. There is hope in every open eye. So live your life like you’re ready to die. Let them have everything but your pride. Hold your ground when the sun sets, tonight is the night! The darkest night comes just before the dawn, and trust me son, we will make it out alive.
9.
Here we go again. I brought us here on purpose. I knew we wouldn’t make it out. You see it in my face. You and I were born to die in this place. All the walls you built to surround you crumble right before your eyes. Yet again it seems you have failed. This is how it all ends. We couldn’t change it if we tried. Come on, come on, go ahead try. This is the price we pay for the moment in time when we felt invincible. Your heart beats faster! Your knees get weaker! And time stands still. Push it back, push it back, but one day this will all become very real, as a curtain of darkness covers the sky. In this place you have no face. In this place you have no name, looking for anything that feels familiar. Trying to forget a city in ruin, wasting time caught in a trap you set yourself. You set this trap yourself. When the skyline hit fire, it all went to hell. Dead bodies askew, alarming the church bell! You can not do this on your own. Our days were numbered. They watch in silence. Create and destroy, orchestrating our every thought. But we dare not say we ever tried to make it stop.
10.
Persevere, Persevere! It’s time to test the limits of your heart. Make it clear; this is not a test of the system they want you to believe. Understanding the paths that we take, relay’s signals from our nerves to our brain. Don’t get lost in the upside down ways. This world has a heavy hold on your heart. You’ve know from day one that things aren’t always cut just to fit you. Uncertain of what’s at stake, this question is killing you. So many think they know it all. All they know is that it’s gonna end. You gotta live while you can. You’ll find it hard, harder now just to believe. Give it some time. Give it some needed time. Crashing through the open doors. We fall flat on our faces again. This is the life that you chose! You’ve got the time, so make your amends. I know sometimes it’s so hard. Afraid to show your weakness, but were all so weak inside. So don’t listen. Make up your own mind. Listen with your ear to the sky. And keep your feet moving! Persevere, Persevere. You have the power to make this life your own. Its time to test the limits of your heart. Make it Clear, Make it clear. This is not a test of the system. In a world, a world that is broken. I’m afraid of a world that is breaking, a world that is breaking down. In a world that is broken and dead, I am afraid that there’s nothing left. Show them how strong you are. You’ve come this far, Don’t fall.
